Ahead of Olympics, ShadeLA to expand shade across city<\/h1>\n\n\n

Research shows shaded areas can have a \u201cheat burden\u201d \u2014 a combined measure of temperature, humidity and wind \u2014 up to 35\u201370\u2009<\/u>degrees less<\/u><\/a> than nearby sun-exposed areas. Quality shade can also reduce UV radiation exposure by up to 75%<\/u><\/a> and help prevent up to 50% of emergency-room visits during heat events<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the 2028 Olympics and other global events set for L.A. on the horizon, a coalition of universities, nonprofits and local agencies has launched ShadeLA<\/u><\/a>, an initiative to expand cooling infrastructure across the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
